Zo goed liep het vorig jaar was deze Wampex er één waarin niet alles spoepel verliep. Maar wat hebben we gelachen….. En met name om de schoenen ellende van Rahied.
We gingen super snel van start echter op 1/3 van de tocht bleef de zool van één van Rahied’s 10 jaar oude Timberlands hangen in de modder. Met wat sport tape gewikkeld om de onderkant van de schoen kon Rahied het nog enkele kilometers volhouden. Maar vlak voor de “choko stop” liep Rahied de gehele onderkant van zijn schoen er vanaf waardoor hij op zijn sok verder moest gaan. We moesten de keuze maken om Rahied misschien wel bij de “choko stop” achter te laten. Maar Rahied is geen opgever en probeerde bij iedere vrijwilliger voor 50 euro een schoen los te krijgen. Hij moest en zal de Wampex uitlopen. Geluk bij een ongeluk wonen de schoonouders van Ivo een dorp verderop naast Vledder. Na een telefoongesprek werden alle wandelschoenen uit de kast gehaald en kwamen de hulptroepen onderweg naar de “choko post”.
Wat was Rahied opgelucht en wenste ook zo’n schoonvader zoals die van Ivo. Zijn “nieuwe” schoenen zaten gegoten. Al met al 35 minuten vertraging opgelopen gingen we eer snel opstap. Maar naar zo’n 500 meter vlak voor de proef met de rubber boot liep Rahied wederom een stuk zool los van zijn schoen. Dit geloof je niet! Hilariteit bij de vrijwilligers van de Wampex. Inmiddels was Ivo bezig met de boot opdracht en kreeg Rahied van de organisatie een rol Duck tape. Met zijn zilveren door duck tape omwikkelde schoenen probeerden we de draad weer op te pakken. Maar het liep dit jaar niet lekker. Veel fouten en verkeerde keuzes leidde to veel tijdverlies. En Rahied zijn schoenen begonnen een eige leven te leiden. Doordat bijde zolen los kwamen maar nog vast geplakt door de tape krulden zij op als de krulschoenen van een Arabier.
Het laatste stuk was zwaar en saai en we waren opgelucht toen we de laatste proef zagen liggen. Met een surfplank en een touw moesten we ons één voor één naar de overkant trekken. Na de “laatste lootjes” route kwamen we na dik 34 kilometer en bijna 12 uur lopen aan in vledder. Daar was het verhaal al bekend van het schoenen verhaal. Ik denk dat Rahied zeker de plaatselijke krant gaat halen.
